What Makes Rotational Molding Stand Out? Exploring Its Suitability for Large, Seamless Hollow Plastic Products

1. The Concept and Applications of Rotomolding

Rotomolding is a method for forming thermoplastics using controlled molding, also known as rotational molding, rotational molding, and rotational molding. China's rotomolding industry experienced rapid growth in the late 20th century and early 2000s, with most of the leading companies in the industry established during this period. According to Zhangcheng's data, China has the largest number of rotomolding companies in the world.

Rotomolded products are used in an increasingly diverse range of industries, both domestically and internationally, and are widely used in engineering machinery, automotive, medical and military applications, home appliances, toys, environmental protection, transportation, entertainment, construction, home furnishing, and animal husbandry. They are particularly suitable for producing large, hollow, seamless plastic products.

2. Rotomolding Technology Analysis

Rotomolding is a hollow molding process for thermoplastics. The principle is as follows: Resin is added to the mold, which is then closed. The mold is heated and continuously rotated along two perpendicular axes, causing the mold to rotate/roll in three dimensions. The resin, thanks to its own gravity, evenly spreads throughout the mold cavity and gradually melts until it is completely melted and evenly adheres to the inner walls of the mold cavity. Heating is then stopped and the cooling process begins. After the product cools and solidifies, it is demolded to obtain the desired seamless hollow part.

During rotational molding, the mold speed is low, and the product is formed entirely by the natural flow of the resin. As a result, the product is virtually stress-free and less susceptible to defects such as deformation and dents.
